I’m migrating back to wordpress from jekyll. Most of the reasons I migrated to jekyll from wordpress still apply, but I overlooked a couple big things that have contributed to the lack of frequent updates to this site.
Updating jekyll was easy enough to update when I first installed it and customized the theme. Then the base theme I was using stopped being updated, then I changed my OS, then I updated my OS. Each of these steps came with their own headaches to iron out each time I wanted to create a new post. Broken dependencies, me sifting through ruby gems, I think I like the idea of jekyll more than actually using it day to day. It became too much to maintain, and as I learned at work, the best system is the easiest one to maintain. If I have to spend 30mins sorting out dependencies everytime I want to make a post, I won’t post as much. Then next time I post it will be an hour sorting it all out… etc. At the end of the day I made things overly complicated for myself.
Which brings me back to wordpress. There’s a reason it’s #1, it’s easy. Super easy. So hopefully that will lead to more frequent updates.
